Red Hong Yi Art

I have mentioned from my previous post that I’m not an artistic person but I highly admire and appreciate those who are, and of all the artists of this generation, my most favorite is Red Hong Yi. She’s a Malaysian artist who has gained popularity through her style of using non-conventional, mundane objects as medium for her artworks such as coffee, sunflower seeds, flower petals, etc. This portrait of Jackie Chan using chopsticks is most probably her most popular piece so far.

You can see the makings of this beautiful piece of art in this Youtube video

Making art through traditional means is already a challenge and thinking of an alternative way to do it requires extra talent—both of which are possessed by the very talented miss Red Hong Yi. She doesn’t limit herself with the traditional ways of art creation. This Adele painting, for example, is made using melted candles.

While this Yao Ming portrait is painted by dipping a basketball in red paint and dribbling it over the canvas.

My heart weeps for these books used to create this Mark Zuckerberg portrait.

…and for the amount of coffee spent to create this of Jay Chou.

Aside from these portraits, she also creates food art, and animals using flowers. And did I mention that she’s also an architect and uses her skills to create digital design? You can find more of her creations and art works on her website http://www.redhongyi.com/ and on her Instagram account and blog
